Baby Shower Decor

Baby Shower Decor is not really any different than decorating anything else. It just takes some imagination and creativity.

I have been decorating for years and I have found so many tips and tricks that will make your life so much easier.

Colors for baby showers are usually pastels. Pinks, blues, greens, and yellows. But please...Get out of the box! Okay, I agree that those colors work for most baby showers, but if the Mother loves red...Then do the shower in red for goodness sake.

There is not going to be a decorating guru standing outside the door shaking her head.

Decorating is really easy. I'll show you some tricks that I use every day.

Baby Shower Decor Made Easy

Decide On a Theme

You don't have to have a real strong theme, but you must decide on your colors at least. It makes the process so much easier. My advice for picking colors is to look at the shower supplies.

Choose two or three colors from that. Or go out on your own and coordinate the shower supplies around the color scheme you choose.

Two or three colors should be the most you have. Too many colors look tacky. Very chic and modern showers only have very limited colors. Like crisp white and turquoise.

Some great color combos for Baby Showers include...

  • Turquoise and Brown
  • Pink and Brown
  • Light Blue and Brown
  • Cold Pink and White
  • Warm Pink and Cream
  • Hot Pink and Purple
  • Light Blue and White
  • Hot Pink and Bright Yellow
  • Purple and Turquoise
  • Lavender and Soft Yellow
  • Pink and Mint Green
  • Orange and Lime Green
  • Raspberry and Ivy Green
  • Periwinkle and Sage Green
  • Sage Green and Cream

Of course the list is actually endless. Ask the Mother what theme and colors she wants for her baby shower decor and go from there.

Balloons

Balloons are a cheap baby shower decorating staple. And they're so easy to decorate with. Just tie a long curly ribbon in a coordinating color on them. Group in 3 or 5's. And don't forget to stagger them.

For a cheap balloon weight, fill a balloon with about a 1/4 cup of sand and tie. You can cover it with a piece of tulle and ribbon if you wish.

Floating balloons are a great touch. Just fill them with helium, tie on a pretty ribbon and let them float on the ceiling. If you want the balloons at waist height, tie fishing wire on the balloon and a weight. Set on the floor. It will look like they are floating. It's a really cute look for any "sea" baby shower theme.

You can purchase mylar balloons in all kinds of shapes and sizes.

Tulle

Tulle is absolutely wonderful. You can buy it for about $1.00 a yard. So cheap! I use it all the time for parties and showers.

Wrap around the backs of chairs for an elegant look. Tie in a big bow. Fluff the bow. Hot glue flowers onto the bow.

You can also use it on the tables. Crumple it in the middle of your cake table. Layer on your cake and food (placed on pedestal cake plates).

Drape it from the ceiling for a Royal Princess Party or Tea Party.

Make bows for your centerpieces.

Centerpieces

Centerpieces are a very important part of your shower. So important in fact, that I wrote a whole page on them.

Check it out here.

Traditional Shower Supplies

Of course you can use traditional shower supplies as well. Streamers are fun. Put two colors back to back and twist for a neat effect.

Use Baby Items

  • Gifts in a basinet
  • Flowers in baby bottles
  • New diapers as napkins
  • Pacifiers as napkin rings
  • Baby blankets as tablecloths
  • Make baby socks into roses
  • Baby books

Misc. Baby Shower Decor Ideas

  • Round white lanterns make great bubbles.
  • Use upside down umbrellas to hold stuffed animals, gifts, or just for decorations.
  • Always decorate the chandelier to match the shower theme.
  • Gift bags are not just for gifts. Use them in decorating as well.
  • Scatter curly ribbon on the tables for added color.
  • Confetti is always a fun shower idea.
  • Instead of streamers, use flower garlands.
